falls, and pools… reflects my interest in the politics and poetics of the national landscape in 2004. Each drawing + collage examines local and global conditions surveyed and collected from contemporary events.

These conditions are among those determining the hardship and the beauty of our environments. The waterfall’s grace is coincident with the figures falling from the WTC. The reflecting pool of calm concurrent with the inaudibly collected names of all citizens killed in Iraq. In each, the fall and the pool, there is the promise of repose and calm, but there is also the descent and muddle of harsher realities.

Each image has made use of a combination of materials: drawing (graphite, ink), inkjet printing, gouache, enamel, spray paint, and assorted dimensional objects (playing cards, HO train components, balsa wood, die, various ephemera). Most are on paper but some are on rubber and sheet steel.
