The surface of a painting is a means of linking with the viewer’s experiential record. The surface and depth of the materials permit kinds of complexity in its construction. With that consent examined, the viewer is invited to dance with the surface, study the layers of its making and in a process archeological, gain access to gestures that can communicate minutely as much as their collection into larger structures.
